Sakura at Night

Friday was the last day of training and all we had on Saturday was a quick health check, so it was mostly a free day.

This was a typical breakfast at the hotel, though most days there was something involving hot dogs. On Saturday I had a croissant, potato salad, chicken with vegetables, cabbage with other vegetables, mixed fruit, Japanese pickles, and orange juice.

The breakfast area had a nice view!

My boyfriend had his health check after breakfast and mine wasn't until 1:00, so I spent the morning shopping. I didn't eat at Mister Donut, but I took this picture outside of one.

I had a couple pieces of Shaka Shaka Chicken from McDonald's for lunch. They've changed it a little since I was last here, but it's still good.

The red building  under the train tracks is where I ate ramen earlier in the week. There are a several different ramen restaurants in there.

That's the building where we had training.

I didn't know how long the health checks would take (last time they took quite a while) so my boyfriend and I decided to meet at the station around 4. It ended up being very quick and I was done by 1:30 so I had quite a bit more time to just wander around and shop and take pictures.

That evening my boyfriend and I went back to Hamamatsu Castle Park to see the sakura at night. We decided to take a different route there. We knew the general direction of the park, but we ended up getting a bit lost because we got distracted by places we came across, like this neat hotel with torches.

This was behind the hotel and down the street a little bit and based on signs we think this was a place for weddings. It was really pretty!

We were kinda lost, but never too lost because we could see Act Tower, the tallest building in Hamamatsu, which wasn't far from our hotel.

We came across several temples and shrines. They looked mysterious at night!

Eventually we decided to head back in the direction of Act Tower and then eventually recognized where we were and got back on track to Hamamatsu Castle Park.

The park was super pretty with the lanterns lit up and the sakura petals falling!

We got hungry as we walked around the park, so we decided to get some food from a konbini and eat in the park. It took us surprisingly long to find a konbini, but we eventually found one, bought our food, and walked back to the park.  It was quite a bit of walking back and forth but it was worth it. We found a spot on a bench near the main pond and ate our dinner. So nice!

This video isn't the greatest, but you can kind of see the sakura petals blowing in the wind.

Now I need to work on organizing my apartment a bit more so I can take a video of it. I bought a kotatsu yesterday. Yay! I also drove here for the first time yesterday! I'll take pics of my car as well!

Training Week

Tuesday through Friday was training. We were there until about 8 or 9 every night except for the last day. It was very long and tiring! Training wasn't that long when I went through it before. I think we got more practice pretending to be teaching a class this time though, which is good I think. Though I think it would have been better spread over five days because long days are tough especially when getting over jet lag. But overall I think it was good. Most of the information was not new to me, but I did get some ideas for new games and activities.

Besides lunch breaks and grabbing dinner after training I didn't do too much, but here are a few pictures that I took.

Mmmm... I love the bakeries here. The thing on the left had egg, cheese, asparagus, and bacon. The one on the right had cheese, spinach, and ham.

Sometimes restrooms here don't have towels or driers so it is a good idea to carry around something to dry your hands. I bought a really cute Rilakkuma cloth at Kiddyland. In case you can't read it on your screen, it says, "Let's have your happy time with heart." Lol.

Most nights my boyfriend and I just grabbed something quick from a konbini for dinner, but on Friday after our last day of training we ate at a restaurant that I can't remember the name of. We both had this, which was omurice (omelet with rice inside) with an eggplant, mushroom, ground beef sauce. Tasty!

I really love these stairs. They look really cool at night, too. I have a picture, but it won't upload. :(

I got a Pon de Sakura donut from Mister Donut. It was so good that I got another one the next day. I wanted one every day, but thought that was probably a bad idea, lol. They were sooooo good though! I don't know if I tasted the sakura flavor but it was tasty. Donuts in America often make me feel kinda bad after eating them, but Mister Donut's donuts don't make me feel that way. So they feel healthier even though I doubt they are. Haha.

They just started a Hello Kitty thing where they have donuts with Hello Kitty's bow. I think she's crying in this picture because she lost her bow. I saw a commercial today and they said something about searching for her bow. It's cute and makes me want more donuts!

Hamamatsu Castle Park - Sakura!

Konnichiwa! I have been in Japan for a little over a week now. I'm in my apartment now, but I have a few posts to do to catch up.

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I left at 8:20 a.m. eastern time, had about a 3 hour layover in Atlanta and then flew to Narita and arrived a little before 4 p.m. Sunday Japan time (3 a.m. Sunday eastern time). I kind of dozed off for a couple minutes here and there on the plane, but never really completely fell asleep. Once we landed we had to go through immigration, send our bags to the hotel, and exchange money. Then we had to take a 45 minute train to Tokyo, and then take the shinkansen for an hour and a half to Hamamatsu. It was about 9:30 when we arrived in Hamamatsu, which was 8:30 a.m. back home so we had been traveling over 24 hours. We were super tired!

Training started on Tuesday, so we had a free day on Monday. I'm glad we arrived a day early because I was pretty jet lagged! I felt it more this time than last time for some reason.

I went to bed pretty soon after arriving at the hotel, but I did take the time to take a couple pictures. This was the view from my room:

On Monday we wandered around Hamamatsu a bit, went to a few stores including Uniqlo where we were amused by some of the men's clothing such as pink capri pants and pink toe socks.

We ate ramen for lunch. This was Hokkaido style ramen which had a miso base and lots of stuff in it including pork, chicken, bean sprouts, corn, green onions, peppers, and bamboo.

I saw a lot of signs for Jubilo, Iwata's soccer team, around Hamamatsu. Iwata is where I'm living.

I didn't see any sakura drinks or food at Starbucks this year (I saw it online weeks ago so I guess they were already done), but Mister Donut had plenty of sakura stuff!

I bought some panda Pocky (chocolate sticks with white cookies and cream icing) and acerola tea. Acerola is a type of fruit and I didn't think it was very good. I should have gone with the apple tea, which I love, but I wanted to try something different.

After shopping for a little bit we headed to Hamamatsu Castle Park. It was super pretty!

We went up in the castle and had a nice view of Hamamatsu!

I didn't get anything at Baskin Robbins, but I was surprised to see Easter stuff in Japan.

ume (plum) flavored Mitsuya Cider

some cute stuff I bought to take notes at training and a cute alarm clock
