Hamamatsu Castle Park - Sakura!

Konnichiwa! I have been in Japan for a little over a week now. I'm in my apartment now, but I have a few posts to do to catch up.

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I left at 8:20 a.m. eastern time, had about a 3 hour layover in Atlanta and then flew to Narita and arrived a little before 4 p.m. Sunday Japan time (3 a.m. Sunday eastern time). I kind of dozed off for a couple minutes here and there on the plane, but never really completely fell asleep. Once we landed we had to go through immigration, send our bags to the hotel, and exchange money. Then we had to take a 45 minute train to Tokyo, and then take the shinkansen for an hour and a half to Hamamatsu. It was about 9:30 when we arrived in Hamamatsu, which was 8:30 a.m. back home so we had been traveling over 24 hours. We were super tired!

Training started on Tuesday, so we had a free day on Monday. I'm glad we arrived a day early because I was pretty jet lagged! I felt it more this time than last time for some reason.

I went to bed pretty soon after arriving at the hotel, but I did take the time to take a couple pictures. This was the view from my room:

On Monday we wandered around Hamamatsu a bit, went to a few stores including Uniqlo where we were amused by some of the men's clothing such as pink capri pants and pink toe socks.

We ate ramen for lunch. This was Hokkaido style ramen which had a miso base and lots of stuff in it including pork, chicken, bean sprouts, corn, green onions, peppers, and bamboo.

I saw a lot of signs for Jubilo, Iwata's soccer team, around Hamamatsu. Iwata is where I'm living.

I didn't see any sakura drinks or food at Starbucks this year (I saw it online weeks ago so I guess they were already done), but Mister Donut had plenty of sakura stuff!

I bought some panda Pocky (chocolate sticks with white cookies and cream icing) and acerola tea. Acerola is a type of fruit and I didn't think it was very good. I should have gone with the apple tea, which I love, but I wanted to try something different.

After shopping for a little bit we headed to Hamamatsu Castle Park. It was super pretty!

We went up in the castle and had a nice view of Hamamatsu!

I didn't get anything at Baskin Robbins, but I was surprised to see Easter stuff in Japan.

ume (plum) flavored Mitsuya Cider

some cute stuff I bought to take notes at training and a cute alarm clock

Iwata!

My boyfriend and I got our placements Sunday evening. Yay! My boyfriend will be teaching in Hamamatsu and I'll be teaching in Iwata, which is east of Hamamtsu.

I'm super excited about this location! It's on the Tokaido line so we have easy access to Tokyo and Kyoto. I'm further from Tokyo this time, but I can get there in the same amount of time because it's a more direct route. Yay!

Hamamatsu has about 800,000 people and Iwata has about 160,000.

We both have driving positions. It should be interesting to drive on the left side of the road!

I decided to change my blog and I'm happy with how it looks now. :) I used a template and I still have a little bit of work to do, but I need to figure out how to make some of the changes. But it's already a big improvement!

I'm even more excited now that I know our placements. I want to go to Japan now!

Places to Visit

It's just a little over two months until I move back to Japan!!! I'm getting excited! :) I have already started a packing list. I have a lot more that I want to take with me this time. Hopefully it will all fit in my suitcases. :P

I have also been making a list of places I want to visit. I'm sure I'll add much more to this list, but hopefully I will also check off a lot of places! I have links about most of these places so if you click on the names you can see blogs or websites about these places! :)

Various Cities and Places and Such

Torii, pretty water, deer... yay!

My friend Lauren and I though about visiting Nikko when she came to Japan, but we never did. I hope to eventually make it there though.

The forest looks so... MAGICAL!!!!

So weird looking!

It would probably be a bad idea to pay so much to get into Sanrio Puroland when all I would want to do in there is spend more money on super awesome cuteness. Ahhhh! Everything looks so cute! Maybe I'll just have to settle for going back to Hello Kitty's Kawaii Paradise in Odaiba. Maybe this time I'll eat pancakes there. :)

I like miniature stuff and this place looks interesting. I can see a lot of great photo opportunities!

I thought the obsession with Tokyo Sky Tree before it was even finished (soooo much merchandise, even puzzles with images of it under construction) was a bit annoying, but now I kinda want to go. There are shops there though and I like shopping.

It's a Japanese arts and crafts festival. I hope I have the chance to go.

I don't even like hard candy very much, but these are just too cute!

Whoah. This store is like my childhood. In these pictures I found several toys I had as a kid including a Magic Nursery Pet and a game called Pigtails and Ponytails. I see a random Barbie board game there. I have a board game called Barbie We Girls Can Do Anything and it was terrible. I didn't even like it as a kid. I tried changing the rules to make it fun and I never succeeded. It was boring. I still have it just because it's funny. Maybe I'll take it with me and try and sell it to this store. Ok, not really, but it would be funny.

This store looks pretty awesome! I love old video games.

I went to Liz Lisa a couple times and loved there stuff but never bought anything. Kinda expensive... but it's so cute! Maybe I'll save a bit and go on a special trip there sometime. :) They also have a home store that I didn't know about.

Hopefully I'll have better luck than when I went to Nekobukuro in Tokyu Hands. The cats there all ran from me or tried to bite me. Haha.

How did I never get around to doing this last time?!!?

Oooooh! This is sooooo pretty!

So many places I want to go!!! Hopefully I'll get to visit most of them! :)
